50+ years of pickin' & grinnin'

Howdy, I'm Steve.

My roots were in South Dakota where My dad, brother, sister and I were all born. Dad, a first generation American whose parents  immigrated from Denmark'. My mother's side were from Louisville. Kentucky, although mom was born in San Diego, California. There are some interresting musical connections from both sides of the family. I'll be getting to those connections in my blog section.

An old folk singer and picker. I started playing folk music in 1959.

My first folk music inspiration was, of course, The Kingston Trio. My older brother, Larry, and I first started playing the uke which we learned from our Samoan classmates who, like us, had to stay behind while the rest of the sixth grade class of Mission Road Elementary School were off to Camp for a week. We in turn, suffered through a whole week of recess.

We'll get to the rest of the beginning on the blog page too.

ABOUT ME

Folk music has always been a big part of my life. This site reflects that point as best as I can demonstrate, however, I was always told from the beginning, "folk singers should never give up their day job."  Lucky thing I took that advise or my family would have starved. But, that's what I loved to do so, here is my 50+ years of pickin' & grinnin'.
